1. uboot´s care for privacy
uboot cares for your privacy and wants to obey the current legislation of data protection. uboot therefore wants to give you as much control about the use of your personal data as possible. please read this privacy policy in order to understand how your personal data are used.

2. use of cookies
uboot uses cookies to store your preferences and to record session information, for purposes including ensuring that you are not repeatedly offered the same advertisements and to customize newsletter, advertising, and web page content based on browser type and user profile information. we do not link the information we store in cookies to any personally identifiable information you submit while on our site. you may be able to configure your browser to accept or reject all or some cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set -- each browser is different, so check the 'help' menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences -- however, you must enable cookies from uboot in order to use most functions on the site. please note that uboot allows third party advertisers that are presenting advertisements on some of our pages to set and access their cookies on your computer. advertisers' use of cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not the uboot privacy policy.

3. which personal data are collected within the registration process and how are they use?
uboot collects user submitted information such as name, email address and age to authenticate users and to send notifications to those users relating to the uboot service. besides, uboot collects other voluntarily given profile data including but not limited to gender, age, etc. the more information you give, the more uboot is capable to adapt to your personal preferences. you decide how much information you want to give. after your registration you are not anonym for uboot anymore. your personal data will be used
  • to enter in contact with you, when necessary (password forgotten...)
  • to send you new information about uboot. you may stop the information anytime you want by opting out in the settings 'my account'
  • to check your authorisation of access to premium content or other special content, eg. drm-software for digtial right administration
  • to send you advertisements, spezial offers, etc.

4. which other data are collected
besides the user submitted information uboot also logs non-personally-identifiable information including the name of the site you asked for, date, time, amount of data transferred, status of access, ip address, browser type, ect. this data is used to manage the website, track usage and improve the website services. this non-personally-identifiable information may be shared with third-parties to provide more relevant services and advertisements to members. user ip-addresses are recorded for security and monitoring purposes.

5. password
the information about the uboot-account and the uboot-profil is protected by a password providing that only you have access to your personal information and administrate this information by entering your nickname and password. we recommend you not to disclose your password to anybody. the stuff of uboot will never call you or ask you in emails to disclose your password. be sure that you log-off form your personal account of uboot and to close the browser-window after finishing your uboot-session. by this you can assure that no other person can have access to your personal information and correspondence, if you use a public computer (e.g. in libraries, internet-café, etc.). we recommend, to use a password which is composed by letters and numbers.

6. online-polls
from time to time we conduct a online-polls in order to check your satisfaction with our service and to test new ideas and features. your participation is voluntary and you may deny to take part, if you do not want to.

7. contests
from time to time we conduct contests in which we ask the user for contact information and demographic information. by this mean, we achieve an optimisation of the contest (e.g. themes, acceptance, etc.) and the possibility to send the price to the winners. your participation is voluntary and you may deny to take part, if you do not want to.

8. third party advertising
in order to keep on offering our services to the users we have to generate income by selling advertisement space to other companies. the advertisement will be realised on the website generally by banners in different sizes. if the advertisements are delivered by a web advertising partner, this partner may set cookies. these cookies allow the ad server to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement. this privacy statement covers the use of cookies by uboot and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers. besides of online advertising, uboot would like to send advertisements of interesting services or products of other companies to you by email or post. to carry out the check of addresses and the sending of mails uboot may integrate from time to time the services of other companies, if these companies have signed a confidentiality agreement before. by this procedure uboot does not give your personal data to other companies for purpose of their advertisement, but only for the purpose of helping uboot in sending you selected advertisements by uboot. if you do not want any advertisement to be sent to you, you may opt-out by sending an email to help@uboot.com.

9. sharing and disclosure of information to courts, third parties, etc.
except as otherwise described in this privacy statement, uboot will not disclose personal information to any third party unless we believe that disclosure is necessary: (1) to conform to legal requirements or to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other legal process received by uboot, whether or not a response is required by applicable law; (2) to enforce the uboot terms of use agreement or to protect our rights; or (3) to protect the safety and the rights of members of the public and users of the service. in order to permit such protection, uboot may disclose the information to third parties, if their rights are violated by a user. for this purpose, such violation of right shall be deemed if the interested third party assures to be owner of the violated right, reasonably describes the violation of his right in writing and uboot cannot exclude the existence of such violation after consulting a lawyer. uboot has the right to report any observed contravention caused by illegal use of service. (4) uboot reserves the right to transfer personal information to a successor in interest that acquires rights to that information as a result of the sale of uboot or substantially all of its assets to that successor in interest.

10. public forums
please be aware that whenever you voluntarily post public information to journals, weblogs, message boards, classifieds or any other public forums, that this information can be accessed by the public and can in turn be used by those people to send you unsolicited communications.

11. links
uboot contains links to sites. uboot is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other sites. when linking to another site a user should read the privacy policy stated on that site. our privacy policy only governs information collected on uboot.com

15. changes in privacy policy
from time to time we may make changes in our privacy policy. in case we make changes, we will post them on our site to make users aware of what the changes are, so users will always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and when we may disclose it. a user is bound by any change to the policy when he uses the site after those changes have been posted.

» 'login' cookie this cookie allows uboot to remember who you are during your 'session' in order to spare you from entering your password over and over again on each site. these cookies are transmitted during registration or login. they will be deleted as soon as you logout, shut down your browser or at the latest 24 hours afterwards. because these cookies have a limited existence they are called 'session cookies'.

» 'autologin2' cookie such a cookie will only be stored if you enable 'auto login' in 'my account'. it allows to automatically log you in whenever you visit www.uboot.com. you don't have to enter your nickname and password by yourself. don't enable auto login if you use a computer others have access to, otherwise others are able to read your messages or send some in your name.

» 'phpbb2mysql_data' cookie this cookie is important for board software. the cookie will store who you are and therefore spare you from entering your password over an over again on each channel board site.

» 'nickname' cookie this cookie is transmitted when you log in (or when you are automatically logged in). it will be deleted as soon as you close your browser or log out. only your nickname will be stored - and no further information.
